Pro-Begich group goes on offense on O-Care

An Alaska super-PAC backing Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) is going on the offense on ObamaCare, touting one of the law’s most popular aspects in a new ad.

{mosads}The ad from the Put Alaska First PAC features Lisa Keller, a cancer survivor from Anchorage who couldn’t get health coverage until ObamaCare went into law.

“I was lucky, I beat cancer but the insurance companies still denied me health insurance just because of a pre-existing condition,” Keller says in the ad. “I now have health insurance again because of Mark Begich. Because he fought the insurance companies, so that we no longer have to.”

Democrats in tough races have mostly tried to avoid talking about ObamaCare, or focused on talking up ways they’ve fought to improve the law. But some have long said they should be talking more about the law’s positive impacts — and this ad is a sign Democrats may do that more going forward, though the ad doesn’t mention ObamaCare or the Afffordable Care Act by name.

The ad is running statewide on television, according to the group.

Begich is a top GOP target. Establishment Republicans have coalesced around Dan Sullivan (R), who has posted big fundraising quarters, though he’ll have to defeat Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) and 2010 Senate nominee Joe Miller (R) in order to face Begich in the fall.
