Landrieu’s GOP challenger comes out as anti-keg stand

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) has come out against keg stands, after his opponent in the Senate race, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D), was photographed helping with one on Saturday.

“It’s not something to celebrate,” Cassidy said Wednesday of the beer-drinking maneuver, according to The Associated Press.

Cassidy cited his role as a doctor in saying that binge drinking should be discouraged.

The photo of Landrieu holding the spigot of a keg while a man did a handstand over it quickly made the rounds on Saturday. The incident occurred at the Louisiana State University football game tailgate.

Landrieu later said critics of her helping out with the keg stand “need to get a life.”

Landrieu is locked in a tight race with Cassidy as well as Tea Party-backed Rob Maness. The state has a “jungle primary,” where if no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, the race goes to a runoff, so it could not be decided until December.
