Ryan’s first ad: ‘Clean house at the IRS’
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan says he might get audited for his new campaign ad slamming the IRS, “but it would be worth it.”
The Wisconsin Republican and former vice presidential candidate went up with his first reelection ad of the 2014 cycle declaring: “It’s time to clean house at the IRS.”
{mosads}In the ad, dubbed “Audit,” Ryan knocks the IRS for failing to track down and turn over emails from employees who’ve been questioned in the scandal involving the targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups.
“The IRS tells you to hang on to seven years of your personal tax information, but they can’t even keep six months of employee emails. It’s time to clean house at the IRS,” Ryan says in the ad.
“Turn the tax code mess into a fair and simple system. Eliminate loopholes; lower tax rates; create jobs; make it easier on hardworking taxpayers. Less of the IRS and more people working.”
“I’m Paul Ryan,” he continues. “And I may get audited for approving this message, but it would be worth it.”
Ryan, Mitt Romney’s running mate in 2012, is expected to easily win reelection. But GOP leaders, including Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) are taking no chances and running ads back home, following the unexpected primary defeat of then-Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in June.
