Trump gracious in Iowa defeat

Donald Trump came in second place in the GOP Iowa caucuses on Monday, a disappointing finish after battling winner Ted Cruz neck-and-neck in many polls.

An upbeat Trump took the stage in West Des Moines to tell his supporters that he had done better than anyone could have anticipated when he first launched his bid for the White House in June.

{mosads}“When we started this journey there were 17 candidates, and I was told by everybody — do not go to Iowa you could never finish even in the top 10,” Trump said. “I said I have to do it. We finished second and I want to tell you something — I’m honored. I’m really honored. And I want to congratulate Ted and all of the incredible candidates.”

Trump gave a special thanks to Mike Huckabee, who dropped out after a weak Iowa showing.

Trump quickly turned his attention to New Hampshire, where polls show he has a big lead over the field of contenders.

“We’re 28 points ahead in New Hampshire,” Trump said “We love New Hampshire, we, we’re leaving tonight and tomorrow afternoon we’ll be in New Hampshire. I think we’re going to be proclaiming victory. I hope.”
