Canadian island not behind website urging Americans to move if Trump wins

The tourism office in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, is not responsible for a website urging Americans to make the Canadian island their home if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is elected.

The site is run by “a very passionate Cape Bretoner” and political activist, an official from Cape Breton Island’s tourism agency told Politico.

{mosads}“Where he lives is a beautiful place and he gave some great imagery and great content,” the official said.

The person who runs the site has “done a fine job as positioning Cape Breton island as a place people will want to visit and live,” the official added.

The website for Cape Breton Island warns Americans about a Trump presidency and encourages people to move to the island, which is experiencing a “population problem.”

“Donald Trump may become the next president of your country. If that happens, and you decide to get the hell out of there, might I suggest moving to Cape Breton Island?” it says.

“Don’t wait until Election Day to find somewhere else to live!”

The website says the island always ranks high on travel magazine lists of beautiful islands. It also touts the rights people would have if they moved. 

“Start now — that way, on Election Day, you just hop on a bus to start your new life in Cape Breton, where women can get abortions, Muslim people can roam freely and the only ‘walls’ are holding up the roofs of our extremely affordable houses.”
