Trump: I don’t regret prisoners of war comments

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Wednesday said he doesn’t regret the controversial comments he made about prisoners of war last summer, suggesting it led to a rise in his poll numbers.

{mosads}“I don’t, you know — I like not to regret anything,” Trump said on the “Imus in the Morning” radio show.

“You do things and you say things. And what I said, frankly, is what I said. And some people like what I said if you want to know the truth. There are many people that like what I said. You know, after I said that, my poll numbers went up 7 points.”

Trump sparked criticism last summer when he mocked Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) military service, saying, “I like people who weren’t captured.”

In the interview, which was first reported by BuzzFeed, Trump called McCain a hero and said he has already apologized for his comments, but McCain seems to disagree, and on Sunday called on the businessman to apologize to veterans.

“There’s a body of American heroes who would like to see him retract that statement,” McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union” over the weekend.
