WATCH: Anderson Cooper grills Florida’s attorney general on views on LGBT community

CNN’s Anderson Cooper laid into Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday in an interview about her comments of being a “champion of the gay community.” 

{mosads}Cooper asked Bondi about a statement following the mass shooting over the weekend at a gay nightclub in Orlando in which she said anyone who “attacks the LGBT community, our LGBT community, will be gone after with the full extent of the law.”

He then said members of the LGBT community he spoke to referred to the attorney general as a “hypocrite.”

Cooper noted that Bondi had previously suggested people in Florida fighting for marriage equality were trying to “induce public harm.”

Bondi responded that she “put my hand on a Bible and was sworn to uphold the Constitution of the state of Florida.” 

“I never said I don’t like gay people; that’s ridiculous,” she added. 

The discussion continued for about five minutes. 

“Anderson, I don’t believe gay people could do harm to the state of Florida,” Bondi continued, repeatedly denying that she ever suggested gay marriage would be a problem for the state. 

Cooper continued to grill Bondi, noting she fought against the law that made it easier for families and spouses of the shooting victims to get information after the attack.

“Isn’t there a sick irony that you were for years fighting that very idea?” Cooper asked.

Cooper added that he went through Bondi’s tweets for the last year and there weren’t any positive posts about the LGBT community or tweets about Pride Month. 

“I have never really seen you talk about gays and lesbians and transgender people in a positive way until now,” Cooper said.
