Sanders rally in Seattle baseball stadium draws 15,000
Supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Friday packed Safeco Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners, one day before Washington’s caucuses.
{mosads}An estimated 15,000 turned out to hear Sanders’s message that “the billionaire class cannot have it all,” according to the Seattle Times.
The Vermont senator joked as he took the podium that as a child, he always dreamed of stepping foot on a Major League field.
“But I didn’t know I would be giving a speech. I thought I would have a bat in my hand.”
Sanders spoke one day before Saturday’s caucuses in Washington, Alaska and Hawaii — a group of states that figure to be competitive between Sanders and rival Hillary Clinton.
He told the crowd that a series of West Coast wins could propel him past Clinton to the nomination, and cited polls saying he could win the general election.
“So don’t let anybody tell you Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate to take on the Republicans. It is just not true,” Sanders said.
He also particularly targeted GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, calling him “a candidate running like he was in a cafeteria food fight in the eighth grade.”
