Trump reignites feud with critical New Hampshire newspaper

Donald Trump, Union-Leader, New Hampshire

Donald Trump is renewing his fight against the New Hampshire Union Leader, calling the influential newspaper “desperate” for asking him to run ads.

{mosads}“The failing [Union Leader] newspaper in N.H. just sent The Trump Organization a letter asking that we take ads,” Trump tweeted early on Thursday morning. “How stupid, how desperate!”

The billionaire businessman also posted an email from the newspaper’s advertising service manager, who tried to sell the campaign on a special-edition issue titled, “Voters First NH Presidential Primary Premium Edition.”

“This is a perfect edition for all candidates to be a part of,” the email said. “I really hope you will consider running an ad.”

Union Leader Publisher Joe McQuaid said there is nothing out of the ordinary with the newspaper’s advertising practices, adding that other presidential candidates have already taken out ads on the paper’s website.

“I expect poor Mr. Trump is amazed/appalled/stupefied by what he no doubt considers the audacity of a newspaper, which he has slammed, to solicit advertising from him,” McQuaid wrote in an email to The Hill.

McQuaid penned a front-page editorial last week blasting Trump, drawing the ire of the Republican primary front-runner.

“Trump has shown himself to be a crude blowhard with no clear political philosophy and no deeper understanding of the important and serious role of president of the United States than one of the goons he lets rough up protesters in his crowds,” he wrote in the editorial.

Trump responded by calling McQuaid a “real low-life” and accusing the newspaper of colluding with other candidates.

The Union Leader was already on Trump’s bad side, having previously endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) in the presidential race.
