Kasich backed by former NH state party chairman
John Kasich has snagged the endorsement of a former New Hampshire GOP chairman as he continues to pin all of his hopes on the Granite State.
Fergus Cullen, the former state party chairman, lauded the White House hopeful’s “unmatched record of winning elections and of advancing a conservative agenda, not just talking about it,” as well as the “positive and inclusive tone he maintains on the campaign trail.”
{mosads}”If a Republican is going to win in November, we need to attract voters, not repel them,” Cullen said in a statement put out by the Kasich campaign.
“John Kasich can carry New Hampshire in a general election and I don’t think most of the other candidates can.”
He added that he had been taking his time shopping around, attending at least 20 town halls and hosting events for four candidates as he narrowed his choice.
Kasich, Ohio’s governor, is part of the logjam of establishment candidates jockeying for a top slot in New Hampshire. He currently sits in second place in RealClearPolitics average of recent polling.
Non-establishment candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz hold the top and third spots, respectively.
Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all candidates with a similar appeal as Kasich’s, are then only separated from him by about 4 percentage points.
