Former 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney is throwing his support behind Carlos Curbelo (R) to win his primary and take on Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) this fall.

{mosads}The race is a top GOP target, and the Republican establishment has rallied around Curbelo over his challengers.

Scandal-plagued former Rep. David Rivera (R-Fla.) has also been making robo-calls in the district, raising the question of whether he’s truly dropped his House campaign.

“I am proud to stand with Carlos Curbelo, a young conservative leader who will work hard to reform our government, balance the budget, and improve the quality of life for the people of Miami-Dade and Monroe counties,” said Romney in a statement.

“As an education reformer, Carlos puts students first. In Washington, he will put his community and our country first.,” he added. “I urge my friends in Florida’s 26th Congressional District to vote for Carlos Curbelo.”

Romney has endorsed a number of candidates in competitive races this year and has sought to help the party with fundraising two years after his presidential defeat.

The former Massachusetts governor has had the Midas touch in primary endorsements this election cycle — all of the candidates he’s backed have won, so far.
