California congressman touts bipartisan veterans work in new ad
Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) is out with a new ad touting his work for veterans.
{mosads}The ad features Michael Renstrom, a Vietnam veteran with a brain injury, praising the freshman lawmaker for his work to help him navigate the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Those medical records had never caught up with my file. I’ve been dealing with this for 43 long years, it seemed like it was never going to happen, and then Congressman Peters stepped in,” Renstrom says in the ad. “Scott Peters cut through the red tape and got me the help I needed. I’m a Republican and I’m for Scott Peters. He cares about veterans a lot.”
Peters is locked in a tight race with former San Diego city councilman Carl DeMaio (R), and has focused his campaign on touting his ability to work across the aisle to make government function better.
The spot, part of a $2.2 million buy running through Election Day, could help him convince the San Diego swing district’s large number of independents to support him in the military-heavy district.
Peters has spent a lot of time on the campaign trail emphasizing his work with the military and veterans.
