Poll: Obama holds 5-point leads in Iowa, Wisconsin

{mosads}In each state, Obama enjoys a 7-point edge with crucial
independent voters, with a 47-40 split in Iowa and a 50-43 edge in Wisconsin.

Both states view Obama favorably and Romney negatively. In
Iowa, 50 percent view Obama favorably, to 46 percent unfavorable. In Wisconsin Obama is
viewed positively by a 52-46 split.

Romney, however, is under water at 46-51 unfavorable in Iowa, 47-49 in Wisconsin.

Asked which candidate would do more to stand up for the
middle class, 52 percent of Iowa voters tabbed Obama and 45 Romney. In Wisconsin, voters preferred the president on
this issue as well, 52-46.

Both campaigns have signaled a drive to capture Wisconsin’s
10 electoral votes this year, with Romney deploying his running mate Rep. Paul
Ryan (R-Wis.) to his home state on Tuesday to attend a storm-relief event for
Hurricane Sandy victims. Ryan will attend additional events in the state Wednesday.

Vice President Biden spoke in Wisconsin on Friday and former
President Bill Clinton is slated to speak there this week.

The polls were conducted from Oct. 29-30 and margins of
error are 3 points for Wisconsin and 4 for Iowa.
