Gov. Jerry Brown rules out presidential run

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) on Tuesday ruled out a run for the White House in 2016. 

{mosads}The 75-year-old governor and three-time presidential candidate said he would not make another bid, asserting that California is easier to govern. 

“No, that’s not in the cards, unfortunately,” he said when asked if he would run, according to the Los Angeles Times.

He added: “Actually, California is a lot more governable.”

Brown is up for reelection this year, and has not said whether he will run again. On Tuesday he said it is still early in the election cycle.  

“We have time,” he said. “I’m not running yet.”

Brown’s most recent White House bid was in 1992. In December, he did not categorically rule out another run. At the time, his office referred to a previous comment Brown had made about time “kind of running out on that.”

His comments at an event last May also seemed to hint he would not enter the presidential race again. 

“I guess I’ll just have to stay and do the work of being the governor, which I actually enjoy because I have some perspective that I didn’t used to have,” he said at the time.
