Trump defends Dem donations, fields GOP requests
Billionaire businessman Donald Trump defended his past donations to Democratic political figures during Thursday night’s GOP debate while fielding donation requests from some GOP rivals.
{mosads}”With Hillary Clinton, I said, ‘Be at my wedding.’ And she came to my wedding. You know why? She had no choice because I gave,” Trump said of his donations to the Clinton Foundation and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I gave to a foundation that, frankly, that foundation is supposed to do good. I didn’t know that her money would be used on private jets going all over the world,” he said.
Trump has donated at least $100,000 to the foundation, and the Clintons attended his 2005 wedding to Melania Knauss.
During Thursday night’s GOP debate, Trump said that he donated to everyone as a businessman.
“You know, most of the people on this stage I’ve given to, just so you understand,” Trump said, looking around at the nine other candidates at the debate.
“Not me,” Florida Sen. Marco Rubio quickly interjected with a smile.
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson also indicated Trump had not donated to him.
“But you’re welcome to give me a check, Donald, if you’d like,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee chimed in.
“I hope you will give to me,” Ohio Gov. John Kasich said, with his campaign moments later tweeting a link for Trump to “chip in.”

“Before this I was a businessman. I give to everybody,” Trump said. “You know what? When I need something from them — two years later, three years later — I call them, they are there for me,” he said.
