Trump calls NH newspaper publisher ‘a real low-life’

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Monday that the publisher of New Hampshire’s largest newspaper is “a real low-life.”

“He’s a real low-life, no question about it,” Trump said of the New Hampshire Union-Leader’s Joe McQuaid, according to WMUR.

{mosads}“This man is absolutely terrible,” he continued. “He’s just a bad guy. He’s in my opinion a very dishonest man.

“The Union-Leader used to be a great paper. Now it is a small fraction of itself. The paper is failing.”

Trump then accused McQuaid of using his publication to help New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“He’s the one who got McQuaid to do this, there’s no question in my mind,” he said of the Union-Leader’s front-page op-ed criticizing his 2016 presidential campaign.

“Joe McQuaid’s just his puppet,” Trump added of Christie’s relationship with the publisher. “I never thought he would stoop to this level and do an editorial. [McQuaid] did it for many reasons, but I think the primary reason is he is backing Chris Christie.”

The Union-Leader endorsed Christie last month heading into New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary on Feb. 9. Trump argued Monday that the newspaper’s nod is a futile effort given the New Jersey governor’s record.

“Chris can’t win because of his past,” he said of Christie. “[McQuaid is] backing Chris Christie and it is ridiculous backing Chris.

“New Jersey ranks 50 out of all 50 states economically,” Trump continued. “The state’s a disaster.”

“The George Washington Bridge — it’s impossible he didn’t know about that,” he added, referencing the controversial bridge closer in 2013 under Christie’s watch.

“How could they close down the largest and most well-traveled bridge in the United States and he doesn’t know about it? It’s impossible to understand that.”

McQuaid’s op-ed published Monday said Trump is “an insult to the intelligence of Republican voters” as the billionaire is a “crude blowhard.” It also compared the real estate tycoon with Biff Tannen, the villain of the “Back to the Future” film franchise.
