Sanders: Iowa a ‘virtual tie’
Bernie Sanders declared the Iowa caucuses a “virtual tie” as he thanked supporters late Monday night with the official results still unknown.
“The people of Iowa have sent a very profound message to the political establishment, to the economic establishment and to the media establishment,” the Vermont senator said during a campaign rally in Iowa.

Sanders noted that he started his presidential campaign with no money and little name recognition despite looking to take on “the most powerful political organization in the United States of America.”
“Tonight, while the results are still not known, it looks like we are in a virtual tie,” he said.
“And while the results are still not complete, it looks like well have about half of the Iowa delegates.”
Sanders and Hillary Clinton are locked in a dead heat, with 93 percent of precincts reporting. The former secretary of State has won 49.8 percent of state delegates, compared to Sanders’s 49.6 percent. That likely means that the candidates will essentially split the state’s delegates.
But the title of victor is an important intangible title for either candidate as they battle for supremacy in the tight nominating contest.
Despite the margin, Clinton aides declared victory to MSNBC earlier in the night, but she did not expressly proclaim victory in her speech to supporters about an hour later.
