Trump: I told Tom Brady not to endorse me
Donald Trump is not expecting an endorsement from New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady any time soon, and the GOP front-runner says he’s behind it.
{mosads}“No, because I told him not to,” Trump told a Boston sports radio station, according to Comcast SportsNet. “He’s got sponsors, he’s got all of his different things that he has to do. And I told him not to.”
Trump, who has praised Brady throughout his presidential bid, said he warned Brady about the backlash his support could bring.
“There was an article in GQ, he said, ‘Trump’s the biggest winner, you can’t beat Trump’ and all that stuff. And I said, ‘Don’t do that, because you may have a sponsor that doesn’t like me.’ They may be liberal, they may be something. And I don’t want him to get involved in that stuff.”
Trump, however, does think Brady would support him, if asked.
“I’ve never asked him to do it. But I think he’d do it if I asked him,” Trump said.
The quarterback has previously dodged questions about whether he will endorse Trump, saying that he supports all of his friends.
“Can I just stay out of this debate?” Brady said in December. “Donald is a good friend of mine. I’ve known him for a long time. That’s what I have to say.”
