Haley: I’ll support Trump if he wins GOP nomination
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is promising to back Donald Trump if he wins the Republican presidential nomination.
“We’ve said that we would support the nominee if they get the nomination,” she said late Thursday during the South Carolina Automotive Summit in Greenville, S.C., according to WYFF.
{mosads}Haley warned that Trump may have trouble winning over general election voters, though.
“If it comes down to Trump, we don’t know if he could win a general, and that’s a big concern,” said Haley, who has endorsed Marco Rubio’s GOP presidential bid.
Haley also downplayed Trump’s victory in Nevada’s caucuses.
“I think that, obviously, Mr. Trump has continued to do well, but Nevada wasn’t a test state,” she said. “It’s a small state with a caucus. It doesn’t count.
“I believe Rubio can overtake Trump. I think Rubio has really shown strong passion and fight but not only that, if you look at the crowds Rubio is getting, it’s young people, it’s old people, it’s all races and religions.”
Republican White House hopefuls are gearing up for Super Tuesday on March 1, when 12 states and U.S. territories will cast their votes in the biggest day yet of the GOP presidential primary.
Trump remains the party’s front-runner by nearly 13 points nationwide, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
Haley endorsed Rubio on Feb. 17, three days before South Carolina’s primary.
Trump won a resounding victory in the Palmetto State. Rubio finished third behind Trump and Ted Cruz.
