Sanders to air first ad in California
Bernie Sanders’s White House campaign will begin airing its first ad in California this weekend, a 30-second TV spot that contrasts his fundraising message with Hillary Clinton’s.
The ad, titled “$27,” is an ode to what Sanders frequently touts as the average donation to his campaign.
{mosads}“I think it’s the best $27 you could spend,” one supporter says, followed by quick videos of other supporters talking about how a donation to the Sanders’s campaign can lead to free college, Wall Street reforms and an increase in the minimum wage.
The spot will air in San Francisco Friday evening and in Los Angeles Saturday night, timed to coincide with Clinton’s high-dollar fundraisers with actor George Clooney in both cities, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Sanders has previously blasted Clinton for her pricey fundraisers, calling them obscene in an interview on CNN last month.
“It is obscene that Secretary Clinton keeps going to big money people to fund her campaign,” Sanders said on “State of the Union” in March.
Two seats at the head table with the Clinton and the Clooneys will cost a couple $353,400. Saturday’s fundraiser at the Clooney mansion in Los Angeles will cost guests $33,400 a ticket.
The ad airs more than a month away from the state’s June 7 primary, but it will be another important contest for the Democrats.
Delegate-rich California will be among the final battles for Sanders and Clinton as the Vermont senator seeks to keep the nomination from Clinton.
Clinton has a 10-point lead over Sanders in the state, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
