Clinton leads Sanders by 9 points in Connecticut
Hillary Clinton appears to be headed to welcoming territory in Connecticut, where she leads Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders in a new poll ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
{mosads}Clinton leads Sanders, 51 to 42 percent, in the Quinnipiac University poll released early Wednesday, with Clinton boosted by women and black voters.
The former secretary of State leads among women, 55 to 38 percent, while men back Sanders, 50 to 45 percent. Among white voters, Clinton edges out Sanders, 49 to 47 percent, while she holds a huge lead, 66 to 25 percent, among black voters.
Democratic voters in the state are split on how they view the candidates: 67 percent overall have a strongly or somewhat favorable opinion of Clinton, while 66 percent do for Sanders. However, 27 percent view Clinton in unfavorable terms, compared to 18 percent for Sanders.
Five states, including Connecticut, hold voting on Tuesday, a week after Clinton cruised to victory in the New York primary, expanding her big delegate lead as she looks to ensure her status as the presumptive nominee.
The survey of 1,037 likely Democratic primary voters was conducted April 12–18 via landlines and cellphones with a margin of error of 3 points.
