Trump: Rubio as VP ‘could happen’

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said it’s possible he could ask his former rival for the nomination, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), to be his running mate.

{mosads}In an interview Thursday with Fox News’ “Special Report,” Trump said he and Rubio have patched things up after the contentious campaign.

“We’ve had really nice conversations, not necessarily about” the vice presidency, he said.

“Marco’s a good guy, a really nice guy, and I like him. But not necessarily with respect to any position, but it could happen,” he added.

Trump maintained that the two have always had a “really good relationship” — aside from their brief stint as heated rivals.

“You tend to forget that,” Trump said.

Speculation has been mounting this week about whom Trump will choose as his running mate now that he has essentially locked up the nomination.

Some unbound delegates in Louisiana who had backed Rubio urged Trump in a letter on Thursday to make the Florida senator his running mate.

During the Fox interview, Trump also gave some hints about the type of candidates he’s considering for the job, saying he’s looking for a “current or former” member of Congress.

“I think somebody with political experience who really has a close relationship with Senate, with Congress — where they go in and help so we don’t have to sign executive orders like President Obama does every hour. It’d be nice to get something passed, as opposed to say ‘We’re signing it anyway,’” Trump said.
