Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump shot down the idea of selecting a Democrat as his running mate Friday after campaign surrogate Ben Carson said it was a possibility.
{mosads}“I would rule him out or her out,” Trump said on “Fox & Friends” Friday. “I want to have a great ticket.”
Trump said he is going to “pick a great Republican” as his running mate.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Carson had said Democrats and independents would be among those considered.
“We would consider people who are Americans and who put America first,” he said.
Carson, who is backing Trump after running against him for the GOP nomination, will serve on Trump’s selection committee to find a running mate.
Trump said Thursday there is “probably a 40 percent chance” his running mate will be someone who ran in the GOP primary and that he will announce his decision at the Republican National Convention in July.
