British PM’s office: We never invited Trump to UK

The office of British Prime Minister David Cameron is denying it invited Donald Trump for a visit to the U.K.

“It’s a long standing practice for the prime minister to meet with the Republican and Democrat presidential nominees if they visit the U.K.,” Cameron’s office said in a statement, according to CNN. “Given the parties have yet to choose their nominees, there are no confirmed dates for this.

{mosads}Trump on Monday said that it appears the United States and Great Britain would not have “a very good relationship” if he becomes president. He also lashed out at Cameron for previously calling his proposed ban temporarily barring Muslims from the U.S. “divisive, stupid and wrong.”

“Number one, I’m not stupid, OK?” Trump said on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain.” “I can tell you that right now – just the opposite.

“Number two, in terms of divisive, I don’t think I’m a divisive person,” the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee added. “I’m a unifier, unlike our president now, I’m a unifier. I hope to have a good relationship with [Cameron], but it sounds like he’s not willing to address the problem either.”

A Cameron spokesman on Monday said that the prime minister is not backing down from his past comments.

“The prime minister has made his views on Donald Trump’s comments very clear,” the spokesman said. “He disagrees with them. He continues to believe that preventing Muslims from entering the U.S. is divisive, stupid and wrong. He stands by his comments.”

Trump on early Friday said that he “didn’t go after” Cameron, adding that the foreign leader’s office had invited him to British shores.

“He came after me a little bit,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “And by the way, he would like me to visit 10 Downing Street. They put out that invitation two days about two days ago.

“I’ll do just fine with David Cameron,” the billionaire added. I think he’s a nice guy. I’ll do just fine. But they’ve asked me to visit 10 Downing Street. And I might do it. We’re going to have a good relationship. We’re going to have a better relationship than we have right now.”
