Donald Trump’s campaign says it’s not worried about its paltry fundraising numbers.
“There are no concerns. The money is pouring in for the party,” Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told NBC News late Monday.
“In fact, we just returned from a tremendously successful swing through Texas, Nevada and Arizona. Mr. Trump will continue to do everything he can to defeat Hillary Clinton in November.”
{mosads}Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, took a similar tone in an interview Tuesday morning with “Fox and Friends,” saying he helped bring in “about $12 million” for the Republican Party in those states.
The businessman’s own campaign, however, has strikingly slim coffers for a major party’s likely presidential nominee, raising questions about his campaign’s viability.
Trump finished May with just $1.3 million on hand, compared to $42.5 million for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings delivered Monday night.
Trump raised just $3.1 million for his campaign in the month of May, when he was declared the presumptive nominee, while Clinton raised $26.4 million.
The campaign has spent at least $6.2 million on Trump corporate products and services — about 10 percent of total campaign expenditures — according to an Associated Press review of FEC filings.
Among those, the campaign paid $520,000 to Trump Tower Commercial LLC and the Trump Corporation for rent and utilities, spent $423,000 on Trump’s private Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, paid $135,000 to Trump Restaurants LLC and spent $26,000 at Trump’s golf course in Miami.
