Donald Trump is eyeing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for a top national security role in his administration if he’s elected president, according to Bloomberg.
{mosads}Gingrich has been considered a front-runner on Trump’s vice presidential shortlist. The Georgia Republican campaigned with Trump last week in Ohio.
When Gingrich was asked about potentially serving in a national security capacity, he told Bloomberg, “I know nothing of this.”
During the Ohio rally last week, the presumptive GOP nominee remained mum about the kind of role Gingrich might play in a possible Trump administration, but did say he would be involved.
“Newt has been my friend for a long time. And I’m not saying anything, and I’m not telling even Newt anything, but I can tell you, in one form or another, Newt Gingrich is going to be involved with our government,” Trump said. “That I can tell you.”
The Washington Times reported on Sunday night that there’s a “95 percent probability” of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence being selected as Trump’s running mate. Trump is making a stop in the Hoosier State on Tuesday, stoking speculation that the real estate mogul might announce the governor as his choice.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was the first of Trump’s GOP rivals to endorse him, is also being considered as a vice presidential candidate as well as retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn.
