Trump: There’s something ‘phony’ about these polls

Greg Nash

Donald Trump cast doubt on general election polls that show him trailing Hillary Clinton, calling those polls “phony.”

{mosads}”I see some great polls — I see one from the Los Angeles Times, just came out, where were ahead by 4 or 5 points. I see one from CNN where we are down,” the Republican presidential nominee told the crowd at a rally in Ashburn, Va., on Tuesday.

“I think these polls, I don’t know, there’s something about these polls, there’s something phony.”

He went on to hammer CNN characterizing the network as “negative all day long” and said the network’s ratings will go down because he won’t sit for an interview. Trump said CNN is asking for an interview with him for a documentary it’s doing, but he will refuse.

CNN’s poll from Monday night found Trump trailing Clinton, his Democratic counterpart, by 9 points, a 7-point bump from before the Democratic convention. But the USC Dornsife / LA Times Presidential Election Poll, released daily, found Trump with a 2-point lead on Tuesday.

Trump has upped his skepticism of the general election this week, accusing the nonpartisan Committee on Presidential Debates of skewing the debate schedule to help Clinton and floating the prospect that the election could be “rigged.”
