Khizr Khan says he’s done doing interviews
Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim U.S. soldier who was killed in the Iraq War, said he is done giving interviews after a week in the national spotlight blasting Donald Trump.
{mosads}”Enough is enough,” he told CNN on Tuesday night. “We are not going to participate in this tit for tat.”
Khan’s son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, was killed by a suicide bomber in 2004.
Khan made an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week alongside his wife, blasting Trump for his rhetoric toward Muslims in a speech that drew national attention.
The Gold Star father gave several interviews in the following days, saying that the GOP presidential nominee lacks empathy and has a “black soul.” Trump responded, saying he was “viciously attacked” and questioning whether Khan’s wife, Ghazala Khan, was forbidden to speak at the convention because of her religion.
Trump has been criticized by members of both parties for his attacks against the Khan family.
Khizr Khan said on Tuesday he is satisfied he has delivered his message.
“I want to leave it here. Let the rest of them, the politicians, hash it out,” he said.
“I want to maintain my dignity, my sanctity, my son’s dignity and sanctity.”
He also pushed back against Fox News host Bill O’Reilly’s accusation that he is on the payroll of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
“I have no formal association with the Clinton campaign,” Khan said.
