Poll: Clinton leads Trump in Michigan

Democrat Hillary Clinton leads Republican Donald Trump by 6 points in a head-to-head matchup in Michigan, according to a new poll conducted for The Detroit News and WDIV-TV.

{mosads}Clinton is favored by 43 percent of likely voters, while Trump is backed by 37 percent.

In a four-way matchup including Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Clinton has a 9-point lead over Trump, 41 to 32 percent. Johnson has 7.5 percent and Stein has 3.4 percent.

According to the poll, 61 percent of likely general election voters say Trump is ill prepared to be the country’s commander in chief. More than two-thirds of women, 67 percent, say Trump is not prepared. 

The poll also finds that 57 percent of likely voters think Clinton is qualified to be president and 39 say she is not qualified. For Trump, only 33 percent say the GOP nominee is qualified for the White House and 61 percent say he is not.

Trump is viewed unfavorably by 59 percent of likely voters, and Clinton is viewed unfavorably by 53 percent.

The survey was conducted from July 30 to August 1 among 600 likely Michigan general election voters. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton has a 6-point lead over Trump in Michigan, 41 to 35 percent.
