Trump to campaign in deep-blue Connecticut
Donald Trump will campaign on Saturday in Connecticut, a state that hasn’t gone for a GOP presidential nominee since 1988.
{mosads}According to Trump’s campaign website, the candidate will hold a rally at Sacred Heart University on Saturday evening in Fairfield.
Trump and his campaign aides have long boasted about their plans to expand the electoral map by competing in states like New York, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut and Michigan that Republicans have not carried for decades.
But as the polls have turned against Trump, Republicans are increasingly worried about losing swing states to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, who is also close to Trump in reliably GOP states including Georgia, Utah and Arizona.
President Obama won Connecticut’s electoral votes in 2012 by 17 points over Republican Mitt Romney. Still, a Quinnipiac University poll from June found Clinton only leading Trump by 7 points there.
Matt Mackowiak, a Republican strategist and writer for The Hill’s Contributors blog, criticized Trump’s decision on Twitter.
2/ It’s time to get real. Stop campaigning in states that are gone: CT, NY, ME, CA, CO and VA. Just stop. You re wasting time.

3/ You have a narrow path. Hold the Romney states (in order of danger: NC, AZ, GA, UT). And then pick up OH, PA and FL. That’s it.
