Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is making phone calls on behalf of the man he once called a “sniveling coward.”
{mosads}Cruz on Wednesday was recorded by a Dallas Morning News photojournalist leaving a voicemail for a supporter while phone-banking at a Republican headquarters in Forth Worth, Texas.
Cruz doesn’t mention GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump by name, but encourages voters to turn out in November for an election “critical for the direction of our country.” In the clip, Cruz is sitting in front of several Trump campaign signs.
Photojournalist G.J. McCarthy, who shared the clip, noted that Cruz did not have “much luck getting a live human on line while making calls.”
McCarthy said Cruz left the same voicemail a few times.
“Hi, This is Ted Cruz calling. I was calling you to encourage you to come out and vote on Election Day,” he begins. “This election is critical for the direction of our country, and I urge you to come out and support freedom and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”
The clip of Cruz has been circulating on social media as many mock the former Republican candidate for asking voters to support the nominee he once blasted for insulting his family.

Beep!
Hello, this is Ted Cruz, you failed to vote for me in the primaries so I am reduced to calling for Trump. PLEASE WRITE IN MY NAME! https://t.co/i3dZplYApA— Jude (@Jxnewton) October 5, 2016

Cruz endorsed Trump for president last month in a surprise reversal. He had refused to endorse the GOP nominee at the Republican National Convention in July, getting booed off stage following his speech in which he told voters to “vote your conscience.”
“Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way,” Cruz wrote in a Facebook post officially endorsing Trump two weeks ago. “A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.”
Cruz and Trump clashed fiercely during the GOP presidential primary in a battle that often turned personal. Trump shared a tweet attacking Cruz’s wife’s appearance and insinuated that Cruz’s father may have been involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
