Pence urges forgiveness for Trump: ‘We all fall short’

Mike Pence turned to his faith Wednesday when defending Donald Trump, telling students at a Christian university that the Republican presidential nominee should be forgiven for his vulgar remarks about women.

“It takes a big man to know when you are wrong, admit it, express remorse and apologize, and Donald Trump did just that,” Pence, Indiana’s governor and the GOP’s vice presidential nominee, told a crowd at Liberty University.

Pence rebuked Trump’s comments in a statement released over the weekend and canceled an appearance he planned to make on behalf of the campaign. But after Sunday night’s presidential debate, Pence tweeted congratulations to Trump for his performance and remains by his running mate’s side. 

He also defended Trump after Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told lawmakers that he wouldn’t defend or campaign with Trump, with Pence telling NBC News that he disagrees with that decision.
