Huckabee endorses Joe Miller in Alaska

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) has endorsed 2010 Senate nominee Joe Miller (R) on the eve of his Senate primary.

{mosads}”I am proud to endorse Joe Miller for United States Senate in Alaska, because Joe embodies the kind of values our country so desperately needs. He is unequivocally pro-life, pro-family, and pro-traditional marriage. And above all, he understands that life and liberty come from God,” Huckabee says in a statement released by Miller’s campaign.

It’s curious that Huckabee, a potential presidential candidate, is backing a man so hated by the national Republican establishment. Miller, like Huckabee, has strong social conservative bona fides and a penchant for bucking party leaders.

Former Alaska Department of Natural Resources head Dan Sullivan (R) is the favorite heading into Tuesday’s primary. He’s raised much more money and has led in polling, though both Miller and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) have bases of support, and Alaska’s Republican electorate is notoriously unpredictable and hard to poll.

The winner will face Sen. Mark Begich (D), a top GOP target.
