Buzz Aldrin looks to launch Alaska GOP Senate candidate
Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin has given a last-minute endorsement to Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R), hoping to launch his campaign ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
{mosads}Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, is hoping he can help Treadwell avoid second place in the race.
“I have known and worked with Mead for close to thirty years, dating back to his first time advising NASA, on improving our nation’s space program. Mead is a champion of science, technology and exploration. He will continue to push for Arctic exploration that could produce more energy and jobs for America,” Aldrin said in a statement.
Treadwell has been running behind former Alaska Department of Natural Resources head Dan Sullivan (R) in most primary polls, and has consistently struggled with fundraising. But there are signs the race between him, Sullivan and 2010 Senate candidate Joe Miller (R) has tightened up some in recent weeks heading into Tuesday’s primary, though Sullivan remains the favorite.
