Larry Kudlow threatens Senate run over Iran

Conservative television personality and economist Larry Kudlow is threatening to run against Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) if Blumenthal votes to preserve the nuclear deal with Iran.

During Kudlow’s radio show on Saturday, he told Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) that the possibility that the deal would be enacted is too great to ignore.  

{mosads}“If Sen. Richard Blumenthal votes with Obama on Iran, I’m going to run against him,” Kudlow said.

“I’m not a political guy — I’m an economist, I’m a broadcaster by profession — but I’m so angry at this issue, among others,” he added. “We’re talking about world security, national security — they’re coming to get us and Iran will finance them.”

“I may lose,” Kudlow acknowledged. “It’s a long-shot. I’m not a politician.

“I’ll take on Blumenthal if I have to.”

Roskam, who was being interviewed on Kudlow’s program, said that he would get behind Kudlow’s possible bid.

“If you’re in, I’m in for you,” Roskam said.

Blumenthal is among the 13 Senate Democrats who have yet to announce a position on the deal, which even opponents admit is likely to go into effect. Some analysts suspect that he may be willing to break ranks and vote to kill the deal.

Kudlow said that he had been approached by the National Republican Senatorial Commission, which has “polled” about him.

People everywhere should pledge to run against lawmakers who support the multinational nuclear pact, he urged.

“Folks best stand up everywhere and run,” he said. “I’m telling you, citizens’ movement, run against people who support this terrible Iranian deal.”

If Kudlow did decide to run, the odds would likely be against him.

Blumenthal easily won reelection by 12 percentage points in 2010 against professional wrestling businesswoman Linda McMahon.
