Senator compares 2016 election to 9/11
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) drew a comparison between United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11, and the 2016 elections.
{mosads}Johnson, speaking at Wisconsin’s Republican state convention Saturday, recalled how the passengers on the flight took a vote before storming the hijacked cabin, according to the The Associated Press.
“The reason I like telling that story now as we head into the election is we all know what we need to do,” Johnson said. “November 2016 we’ll be taking a vote. We’ll be encouraging our fellow citizens to take a vote. Now, it may not be life and death like the vote passengers on United Flight 93 took, but boy is it consequential.”
Johnson is facing a tough reelection, as he is set to face off against former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.).
Feingold’s campaign immediately jumped on the comments, saying, “It’s beyond bad taste for a sitting senator to compare a horrific national tragedy — one that united all Americans — to his own partisan re-election.”
