Haley: Yes, Trump one of ‘angriest voices’

NBC's Today

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) confirmed on Wednesday that Donald Trump was one of the “angriest voices” she alluded to in her rebuttal to President Obama’s final State of the Union address.

{mosads}Haley, considered a leading contender for the vice presidential nomination, was pressed during an interview on NBC’s “Today” about whether she was referring to the GOP front-runner in her speech when she called on Americans not to listen to “the siren call of the angriest voices.”

“He was one of them, yes, he was one, there was other people in the media, there’s people in my state, I think we’re seeing it across the country,” she responded.

“But yes, Mr. Trump has definitely contributed to what I think is just irresponsible talk.”

The Southern governor also said that she hadn’t thought about being a vice presidential candidate, but she would consider it if she were asked.

“If a candidate wanted to sit down and talk, I would sit down and talk.”

Obama also used his speech to call for political calm and a toning down of aggressive rhetoric.

“This is not a matter of political correctness. This is a matter of understanding just what makes us strong,” he said.
