New York mayor to join protest against Trump in Germany
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) will be the keynote speaker at a protest against President Trump in Germany on Saturday.
The protest is taking place in Hamburg, where Trump and other world leaders have convened for the annual Group of 20 summit.
De Blasio announced Thursday that he would be heading to Germany for events around the G-20 summit, and Bloomberg revealed that he would be participating in protests. The protests will demonstrate against Trump’s policies and the growth of populist, right-wing groups in Europe.

“We’re glad to confirm: @NYCMayor on stage on Saturday on our rally for human rights & democracy as keynote speaker,” the organization tweeted Thursday.

The organization also claims they’re paying for de Blasio’s trip. Eric Phillips, de Blasio’s press secretary, confirmed to the New York Daily News that event organizers are footing the bill.
“It’s worth it to not just hear the voice of President Trump in Germany these days,” an organization representative told Bloomberg.
“The mayor will be sharing New York and American values with an international audience that we worry only sees and hears from our president,” Phillips said told Bloomberg.
“It’s important that American leaders confront head-on, locally and around the world, the damaging rhetoric and policy stances of the Trump administration,” he said.
De Blasio is meeting with local officials at a Hamburg town hall on Friday ahead of the protest on Saturday.
De Blasio has been a vocal critic of Trump. He condemned the president’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement by pledging that the city will continue the climate accord’s goals.
