Palin: Pregnancy might force Clinton to ‘open her eyes’ on abortion
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) on Tuesday said Chelsea Clinton’s recently announced pregnancy might open Hillary Clinton’s eyes on abortion.
{mosads}Palin acknowledged that her remarks would be controversial while responding to the question of whether the pregnancy would make the former secretary of State more electable if she decides to run for the White House.
“Just knowing that her daughter Chelsea is pregnant with the baby — it is a real baby, you know. It is not some disposable something. And I know that is going to be controversial,” Palin said in an interview with “Extra.”
“But those who perhaps — they are in this position now as a parent or a grandparent, they realize that sanctity of life — how innocent, how precious it is. Of all places, it should be in the womb [that] these babies should be protected. So maybe, even on a social issue like that, she will open her eyes.”
Palin, the former 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, has been a staunch opponent of abortion, except when the life of the mother is in danger. She has opposed the Supreme Court decision upholding the right of abortion, saying it should be a matter left up to individual states.
During the interview, Palin also hoped Chelsea’s pregnancy would broaden Hillary Clinton’s view about the economic future of the country.
Chelsea Clinton, 34, last month announced at an event sponsored by the Clinton Foundation that she is pregnant with her first child.
