Cheneys slam Obama doctrine in op-ed

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz slammed President Obama’s doctrine in a new op-ed, which elicited outrage on social media.

“Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many,” they wrote in The Wall Street Journal.

That line provoked many on Twitter to accuse the former vice president of hypocrisy due to his role pushing the Iraq War in the George W. Bush administration.

{mosads}Even former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) tweeted “With all due respect, Dick Cheney is the last person who should weigh in on Iraq.”

The op-ed contained no mention of the former president.

The Cheneys wrote Obama was wrong to say al Qaeda had been “decimated” now that Sunni militant members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are taking over large swaths of Iraq.

President Obama doesn’t seem to care, they wrote.

“Iraq is at risk of falling to a radical Islamic terror group and Mr. Obama is talking climate change. Terrorists take control of more territory and resources than ever before in history, and he goes golfing. He seems blithely unaware, or indifferent to the fact, that a resurgent al Qaeda presents a clear and present danger to the United States of America.”

They called Obama a “fool” to engage with Iran diplomatically to handle the situation in Iraq, and “willfully blind” to the effect of his policies.

Obama’s doctrine, they wrote, is defined by “empty threats, meaningless red lines, leading from behind, appeasing our enemies, abandoning our allies, or apologizing for our great nation.”
