Bush 41 remains in Houston hospital

Former President George H.W. Bush (R) was rushed to a Houston hospital Tuesday evening after experiencing shortness of breath, according to a statement from the 41^st president’s office.

“President Bush was taken by ambulance to the Houston Methodist Hospital as a precaution after experiencing a shortness of breath earlier this evening. The former president, age 90, will be held for observation, again as a precaution,” the statement read.

A spokesman on Wednesday said “all was well” with the former president but did not provide an update on his condition, according to The Associated Press.

Bush is the father of six, including the 43rd U.S. president, George W. Bush, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

According to The Washington Post, Bush has had heart problems since 1991, when he was president. At that time, he entered the hospital with an irregular heartbeat and was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, a thyroid condition.

Bush celebrated his 90th birthday in June with a tandem parachute jump near his summer home in Maine. His most recent public appearance was in November at Texas A&M University, an event he attended with George W. Bush, according to the report.

He was president from January 1989 to January 1993. 

“The President has been made aware that President Bush was admitted to the hospital,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said in a statement late Tuesday. “President Obama and the First Lady send their good wishes to the former President and the entire Bush family during this holiday season.”
