The State Department has formally recommended Cuba’s removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism List, CNN reported Wednesday night.

The move clears the way for the White House to remove the nation from the list in the coming days.

{mosads}After a historic thaw in U.S.-Cuba relations, President Obama had asked State in December to review whether Cuba should remain on the list.

The move means the State Department believes Cuba has not provided support to terror organizations in the preceding six months.

CNN reported Obama arrived in Jamaica on Wednesday, on a trip that will lead him to the Summit of the Americas in Panama later this week.

Obama will encounter Castro at the summit.
