Senate Dems express confidence after meeting with Axelrod

Chief Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod met with Senate Democrats at their Tuesday lunch.

Senate Democrats were tight-lipped about what was discussed at the meeting, but did express some confidence after Axelrod’s appearance.

{mosads}“Whatever is good or bad can’t be measured at this time, in my view,” Sen. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.) told The Hill. “But we feel good.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) after the meeting said he was confident Obama would win reelection in the fall and that Democrats would keep the Senate majority.

It’s not the first time Axelrod has spent time with Senate Democrats at their weekly lunch, but Tuesday will serve as a final opportunity for some time for the Obama campaign and Senate Democrats to discuss strategy.

The Senate leaves for a five-week recess at the end of the week.

Axelrod and White House campaign chief Jim Messina have both stopped by Senate lunches in recent months to talk strategy.
