Sen. Rand Paul says Ashley Judd is ‘way too damn liberal for our country’

Kentucky senator Rand Paul (R) ripped actress Ashley Judd (D) on Wednesday for reportedly considering a run against Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2014.

In a radio interview on WMAL, Paul described Judd as “way too damn liberal for our country,” and needled her for making one of her homes in Scotland.

“I heard she lives in Scotland, I thought she was running for Parliament,” Paul said, before wondering how she would commute to Washington from overseas since the Concorde supersonic commercial aircraft is no longer around.

{mosads}Judd’s family has lived in Kentucky for generations, although she presently splits her time between Tennessee, her husband’s home state, and Scotland. 

Paul also noted Judd’s opposition to some forms of coal extraction, which he said won’t fly in a state with an economy buoyed by the fossil fuel.

“She hates our biggest industry, which is coal, so I say, good luck bringing the ‘I hate coal message’ to Kentucky.”

Paul and McConnell have become allies after a rocky start to their relationship in 2010, when the Senate leader campaigned for Paul’s opponent in the Republican primary. 

McConnell has raised millions for his reelection run and is trying to ward off a challenge from the right.
