White House mum on potential ambassadorship for Vogue editor

{mosads}“I will not engage in any speculation about personnel announcements,” White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.

Carney laughed when asked if the president had seen the movie “The Devil Wears Prada,” which is loosely based on Wintour, but again, did not respond.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported President Obama was considering Wintour for the post, citing anonymous sources familiar with the situation.

Wintour, a U.K. native and U.S. citizen, was one of the Obama campaign’s largest campaign bundlers.

Over the summer, Wintour hosted two fundraising dinners, each costing more than $35,000 a plate, at the homes of actress Sarah Jessica Parker and movie executive Harvey Weinstein.

Carney said the president was looking for “talent, wisdom and character” in a potential ambassador. When asked if an ambassador should be diplomatic — Wintour is known for her sharp manner — Carney said ambassadors “come in all shapes and sizes.”
