House Intel chairman defends call for ‘pause’ in refugee screening
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on Sunday that he’s not confident the screening and vetting process for refugees coming into the United States is foolproof.
{mosads}”I want to be clear that I do believe that we need to accept refugees from around the globe, especially from places that are war-torn, that have dictatorships,” Nunes, who last year asked for a pause in the refugee program, said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“We need to be the beacon of light around the globe.”
But to serve that role, he said, the House has made it clear that a pause is needed when looking at refugees coming from places like Syria.
“However, the Senate will not vote on it so the Senate Democrats have killed the opportunity to vote on a pause on this refugee program,” he said.
“The longer this refugee program goes unchecked, the longer that we don’t take care of ISIS and al Qaeda, the more that this threat will grow, day by day.”
