Megyn Kelly to interview Trump
Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is slated to conduct a highly anticipated interview with Donald Trump after months of feuding between her and the GOP presidential front-runner.
Trump will sit for a prime-time Fox special interview airing on May 17, the network announced in a statement on Monday afternoon. Portions of the interview will air on Kelly’s show the following day.
{mosads}Fox said in its statement that “Kelly will explore how events unfolded with Trump after the August debate” where the two clashed after Kelly brought up disparaging comments had made about women.
Trump skipped a Fox debate she co-hosted in late January, and the pair had a cordial interaction at a debate in March. But Trump kept up his public criticism of the anchor, calling her “crazy” and untalented.
They met privately at Trump Tower in New York earlier this month in a face-to-face the network said Kelly had requested and Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes apparently brokered.
A network spokesperson said at the time that Ailes had spoken with Trump “a few times over the past three months” about doing the Fox special, which will air on the day of the Oregon primary.
“Mr. Trump and I sat down together for a meeting earlier this month at my request. He was gracious with his time and I asked him to consider an interview,” Kelly said in a statement Monday released by the network.
“I am happy to announce he has agreed, and I look forward to a fascinating exchange — our first sit-down interview together in nearly a year,” Kelly added.
