Hacker: I easily breached Clinton’s email server
The Romanian hacker known as “Guccifer” said he easily and on more than one occasion hacked into Hillary Clinton’s private email server in 2013 while she was secretary of State.
{mosads}Marcel Lehel Lazar told Fox News and NBC that he easily breached Clinton’s private server in March 2013 on more than one occasion, using Clinton ally Sidney Blumenthal’s email as a stepping stone.
His hack of Blumenthal’s account first exposed Clinton’s use of a private email.
Lazar told Fox News that he thinks other hackers were accessing her server as well, saying “As far as I remember, yes, there were … up to 10, like, IPs from other parts of the world.”
Lazar told NBC that the server was “completely unsecured” and “was like an open orchid on the Internet.”
Clinton’s team refuted Lazar’s claim in a statement Wednesday saying, “There is absolutely no basis to believe the claims made by this criminal from his prison cell.”
Clinton has come under heavy fire for her use of a private email sever while at State, which many say compromised classified material. The current Democratic presidential front-runner has maintained that her accounts were never infiltrated by foreign hackers.
An investigation into the server is ongoing. On Wednesday, a federal judge left the door open to a deposition of Clinton herself and ruled that several of her advisers should be questioned.
Lazar was recently extradited to the United States and is facing other cybercrime-related charges.
