Carson: Khans should apologize to Trump
Ben Carson said Wednesday that the parents of an American Muslim soldier killed in Iraq should exchange apologies with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“I don’t think it would be harmful if they apologized to him and he apologized to them, but I don’t see that happening,” Carson, an adviser to Trump, said on CNN’s “Wolf.”
{mosads}Asked why the Khans should apologize, Carson said, “If you accuse someone of something that’s not true, it usually is a reasonable thing to acknowledge that.”
“Why don’t we all just say, ‘Back off a little bit, we have such important issues to deal with and let’s just call a truce,'” the retired neurosurgeon and one-time GOP presidential candidate added.
Trump feuded with Khizr and Ghazala Khan after the father’s speech at the Democratic National Convention last week blasting Trump’s views.
Top Democrats and Republicans condemned Trump’s reaction, which included suggesting Ghazala Khan did not speak at the convention due to her religion.
President Obama on Tuesday called Trump “unfit” to be president in the wake of the controversy and called on GOP leaders to walk back their endorsement of him.
Khizr Khan has signaled he will take a break speaking out on the issue after giving a slew of interviews in recent days.
Trump said Tuesday of the controversy, “I don’t regret anything.”
