One demonstrator shot as anti-Trump protests build
One man was shot overnight Friday night during a Portland protest against Donald Trump, as thousands took to the street in cities across the U.S. to demonstrate against the president-elect.
{mosads}Protesters were crossing a bridge in Portland just after midnight when a man got out of a vehicle to confront and shoot ad demonstrator, Reuters reported.
The victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and the suspect is still at large.
A police statement described the suspect as “an African American male, late teens, 5’8″ tall, thin build, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.”
Protesters took to the streets by the hundreds in several cities, blocking traffic in places like Los Angeles, Detroit, Atlanta and Miami as well as Portland.
In New York, groups gathered outside the president-elect’s home at Trump Tower. ABC News estimated Manhattan protests at 4,000 people.
Demonstrations have been ongoing in some cities since Trump’s election late Tuesday night. Police in Portland declared protests there to be a riot on Thursday, using “less lethal munitions” to disperse crowds.
